Dental Implant PlacementDental implant placement is a procedure that can give you back the strong, healthy teeth you once had. Not only does it provide stability for teeth replacement, but it can also offer improved self-confidence and renewed oral health. At Capital Dental Center we specialize in performing dental implant placements that offer long-term durability and aesthetic results. What is Dental Implant Placement?Dental implant placement is the process of replacing a missing tooth with a prosthetic device that mimics the shape and function of a natural tooth. It involves securing an implant post into the jawbone, which acts as an anchor for the replacement teeth placed on top of it. Dental implants typically consist of titanium screws or cylinders surgically inserted into the jawbone and abutment pieces attached to the dental implants to support single crowns, bridges, or dentures. The procedure requires thorough planning, as different solutions may be applicable depending on the individual's needs, and is conducted by our experienced oral surgeon, Kiarash Saba DMD. Patients who have lost all of their natural teeth due to gum disease, accident, or trauma can benefit from this restorative procedure. What Are the Available Dental Implant Materials? The following are the most common materials used for dental implants.
The Dental Implant ProcedureThe process typically begins with a consultation with a dentist. The next step is a thorough dental exam and x-rays to assess the jawbone and ensure it is strong enough to support the implants. A bone graft may be necessary if the jawbone is not strong enough. Once the jawbone is ready, our dentist will make an incision in the gum tissue and place the implant into the jawbone. The gum tissue is then closed over the implant and allowed to heal. This healing process, known as osseointegration, allows the implant to fuse with the surrounding jawbone. Once the implant fully integrates with the jawbone, our dentist will attach an abutment to support the replacement tooth. The replacement tooth, which can be a crown, bridge, or denture, will then be attached to the abutment. The entire process typically takes several months from start to finish, but dental implants can last for many years with proper care. What to Do After a Dental Implant?During the first 24 hours post-surgery, be sure to ice the area and take any medication prescribed by our specialist, Bahareh Rad MD. It is recommended to keep activity levels low, get plenty of rest and minimize any physical activity.
